........."RAISING THE
BAR & SETTING THE STANDARDS"
Meeting the need of a construction industry with increasing
standardization, pre-qualification requirements and a
growing shortage of able professionals, the American Society
of Professional Estimators announce the development of
two new estimating proficiency exams.
Though
they are not a part of the actual Society certification
process, the exams were developed by the ASPE Certification
Board. The ASPE Standards Board has oversight of the program
and proctoring is done by Certified Professional Estimators.
ESTIMATING
PROFICIENCY TWO (EP2)
EP2
will be an exam which any [non-certified*] estimator with
a minimum of two years experience can take to verify their
knowledge of basic and advanced estimating skills.
The
EP2 exam has been dubbed the "Construction Estimator
Recognition" and should provide those who pass the
opportunity to show their employers or prospective employers
they hold certain abilities. See more...
EMPLOYERS: Feedback from many sources tells us, that company
owners will likely require estimating applicants take
this test to verify their abilities prior to employment.

Once
rolled out nationally the EP2 exam will be available "on
demand", via a computerized method at approx. 180
locations in the USA and Canada.
Those
who complete & pass the EP2 exam will receive a certificate
from ASPE National offices.
ESTIMATING PROFICIENCY 1
(EP1)
EP1
(still in completion process) will be an exam, which tests
entry level commercial and residential estimating professionals
to verify for employers that they have certain skills.
Employers may ask for the test in order to confirm basic
abilities in their junior estimators.
Some
universities and other estimating training facilities
are looking at using the exam as a benchmark for completion
of their courses.
More
information on these exams will be available soon.
