The Society Bylaws establishes the Industry Awareness Committee

The standing committee is charged as follows - "The industry awareness committee shall research information and publicize those activities which may impact the construction estimator. The Committee shall issue position papers on items of interest to the Society".

As a part of this charge, the Industry Awareness Committee has been deeply involved with BIM, its applications and how BIM impacts estimators. In order to do this we have been working with allied organizations, software industry developers and others who are using, developing and implementing this new technology. Our greatest concern is that if we do not come to the forefront of quantity takeoff using BIM we will have something inflicted on us by a software developer who "knows what we need". The various members of the committee, are involved with many other organizations working with BIM and it's applications. The Industry Awareness Committee was instrumental in getting ASPE to be signatory to a "Memorandum of Agreement" with a variety of organizations that have a mutual interest in the Interoperability of all the various products available. We have published several articles in Estimating Today as well as participated in WebEx meetings and other industry events.

We have monthly WebEx meetings that last one hour and are held at 12:00 PM Central Time. There is an agenda and we produce minutes. This format has been working well and we usually have about 80% attendance, since we all have other commitments and everyone cannot make every meeting. Our meetings are interesting and informative.
