Lean Construction Pull Planning

Posted By Phillip Tournor, Friday, March 30, 2018

Although Lean construction seems to be the new trend in construction, have you ever wondered if there are enough hours in the day to complete all your other tasks?   Is there a better way to cut the time out of pull planning meetings on the job site?  Pull plan meetings can consume a full day and often be required twice weekly, and the frequency may be based on the pull plan participants not being able to commit to what they posted on their post it notes board a few days ago due to manpower issues, weather, conflicts, etc.

Is there a way to implement a pull plan meeting to an optimal time frame?   This is especially difficult on subs who Project Managers may manage multiple jobs with possibly 1-2 pull plan meetings, progress meetings, RFIs, and in some cases estimating.   Is video conferencing an option?   Can pull plans be organized in a way to be integrated in progress meetings, BIM coordination, and scheduling to knock out many job site functions into one meeting?

What has been your experience ?
