Weekly NE Regional Governor's call, Tuesdays 4 - 5 pm EST

Posted By Greg Williamson, Wednesday, May 20, 2020
Good to see a number of you on the weekly Governor's call yesterday and good to see the momentum that’s building with Chapters. For new members, i suggest aligning yourself with the leadership of the chapter and willingness to get involved. I would encourage you to challenge some new members and their energy to taking some initiatives to voice what they want and expect out of chapter membership to make it happen for themselves and others and to get involved in the planning and committee work. With the virtual connections, I think it’s easier to plan for small events or discussions and then broadcast to all and see who shows up. We are getting traction again in Boston with new leadership and happy to share what works or drop in yourself or encourage other chapter members to observe our meetings. My thoughts are that we are all National members first, and then local chapter members in our circles of influence.

Encourage the social link apps to stay connected and encourage members to post pictures and comments. One of our initiatives is to reach out to faculty in construction management programs and get professors to join the society – you could even look for sponsors in industry of their memberships.

I can understand the frustration of new members and lack of direction or engagement. We are all learning and perhaps starting a mentoring or sponsor program for alignment of new members is a great thing to organize and reason to reach out to established members and connect. I’ve often said that getting the most out of membership is getting involved; it is not a gumball machine to drop in your dues and expect what you get. Time and time again, those that get the most out of ASPE are those that invest in their profession and pay it forward for our industry.

One thing we have learned is that it's easy to drop in on a virtual event and connect with others, so whatever you're organizing, please share with everyone that may want to drop in and connect

Happy to share. Contact me anytime. Stay safe. cheers

I am in the process of reaching out to several institutions to recruit student members as well as faculty members. The response I have received have been positive. Most of the universities have advisory boards and they were optimistic that an affiliation with the ASPE could provide future board members. I suggest that members reach out to their local universities, colleges, technical institutions and trade schools to spread the word about the ASPE.
