Accelerated Bridge Construction a Success in Pittsburgh

Conventional bridge construction was not the best option for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation when replacing an aging bridge on US Route 30 in East Pittsburgh, Pa. Instead the agency used accelerated bridge construction to demolish and rebuild it in 57 hours, and utilized concrete core and testing, ultra-high-performance concrete, prefabricated bridge elements, 3D model verifications and a detailed micro-schedule.
